Lactose for the pharmaceutical industry

Lactose is used in the manufacture of many pharmaceuticals, usually as an excipient and as a conductor of the active ingredient into the human body.

Lactose is also the main raw material for the production of the disaccharide lactulose (synthetic isomer of lactose). Moreover, lactose is involved in the synthesis of the antibiotic penicillin.

Instructions for the use of lactose.

The dosage of lactose in food production depends on the industry. For example, for the production of sausages, a dosage of 0.5 % to 1 % is recommended.

It is generally accepted that the optimal dosage of lactose is 50 % of the amount of sugar in technological formulations.

Partial replacement of sugar from 7% to 15% is possible to enhance the flavour and reduce the sweetness of the final product.
