Formwork lubricant Defender OIL-201 / Shuttering oil

Defender Oil 201 is a ready-to-use oil-based release agent for formwork and moulds. Brush, roller or spray application. Packaging: 10, 50 and 200 L.

Defender Oil 201 is a ready-to-use release oil for formwork and moulds, based on industrial mineral oil with a functional additive package. It is designed to form an oil-based separating film between the form surface and concrete, helping facilitate demoulding. Apply it as a thin, even film by brush, roller or spray.

Lubricant for formwork Defender OIL – 201

Defender Oil 201 is an oil-based release agent for formwork and moulds. Its base is industrial mineral oil, while the functional additives improve retention of the oil film on the surface and provide additional protective properties for metal components. The public product description does not disclose the formulation.
The product is not a water-miscible metalworking fluid (MWF) and does not require preparation of a water emulsion for standard use.

Key characteristics

Parameter Characteristic
Product type Ready-to-use oil-based release agent for formwork and moulds
Base Industrial mineral oil with a functional additive package
Primary purpose Separation of concrete from the form surface during demoulding
Application Brush, roller or spray
Viscosity adjustment Trial dilution with diesel fuel may be used when necessary; no universal dilution ratio is specified
Packaging 10 L, 50 L, 200 L

When it is suitable

• for metal, wooden and plastic formwork and moulds, subject to compatibility testing in the specific process;
• for cast-in-place and moulding operations where an oil-based separating layer is required;
• when application by brush, roller or spray is convenient;
• when a ready-to-use product is required without preparing a water emulsion.

When to choose another option

If the production process requires a water-based emulsion, a specialized release agent for architectural concrete, or confirmed compatibility with subsequent painting, plastering, waterproofing or other coatings, the release agent should be selected separately. For demanding decorative surfaces, a trial casting is advisable.
Oil-based barrier release agents can affect concrete surface appearance and the adhesion of subsequent coatings, so excessive application should be avoided.

How to apply

Before application, clean the formwork or mould of concrete residue, dust and other contamination. Apply Defender Oil 201 as a thin, even film. Avoid puddles, runs and localized excess.
The product can be applied by brush, roller or spraying equipment. Practical consumption depends on the form material, surface condition and roughness, application method and required film thickness. No universal consumption rate is stated without supporting test data.

Can Defender Oil 201 be diluted with diesel fuel

Defender Oil 201 is supplied ready to use. If lower viscosity is required under specific conditions—for example, to improve sprayability or make it easier to apply a thinner film—trial dilution with diesel fuel may be used.
There is no universal dilution ratio. First prepare a small trial batch and test it on the actual formwork or mould. Check ease of application, film uniformity and retention, demoulding performance and the resulting concrete surface.
Excessive dilution reduces the proportion of Defender Oil 201 and its functional additives in the working mixture and may therefore change its performance. Do not dilute the entire product volume before completing a trial.
If the concrete will later be painted, plastered, waterproofed or receive another coating, process compatibility should be checked separately.

Why a thin, even film matters

With a release oil, more is not necessarily better. The objective is to create a sufficient, uniform separating film without excess product. Film thickness and uniformity can affect the resulting concrete surface, while excessive application may contribute to surface defects. If the application method or dilution is changed, the result should therefore be checked by trial casting.

Limitations

• do not assume suitability for every form material or every concrete surface requirement without a trial;
• do not apply an excessive layer or leave puddles and runs;
• do not use an arbitrarily high diesel-fuel dilution level;
• do not assume a product or equipment temperature range without confirmed data;
• for surfaces that will receive subsequent coatings, verify process compatibility beforehand

Storage and safety

Store the product in tightly closed packaging and protect it from contamination and direct sunlight. A specific storage-temperature range is not stated in this version because confirmed product documentation is not available for that parameter.
Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow the Safety Data Sheet requirements. Do not describe the product as “non-toxic” or “fire-safe” without documentary support. If diesel fuel is added, the safety requirements must also account for the properties of the diesel fuel itself.

FAQ

Does Defender Oil 201 need to be diluted with water?
No. It is a ready-to-use oil-based release agent, not a concentrate for preparing a water emulsion.
Can Defender Oil 201 be sprayed?
Yes. Spraying is one of the application methods. The aim is to obtain a thin, even film without localized excess.
Can the oil be made less viscous?
If necessary, trial dilution with diesel fuel may be used. There is no fixed universal ratio; determine the required level on site after trial application and demoulding.
Why is there no exact diesel-fuel dilution ratio?
Because the required viscosity depends on the application method, temperature, equipment and specific form. Excessive dilution also reduces the amount of Defender Oil 201 in the working mixture.
What packaging is available?
10 L, 50 L and 200 L.
Can it be used if the concrete will later be painted or plastered?
Process compatibility should be tested separately on a trial area because residues of an oil-based release agent may affect adhesion of subsequent coatings.

Ordering and selection

Defender Oil 201 is supplied in 10 L, 50 L and 200 L packaging. When selecting the application method, consider the form material, required concrete surface quality and the available application equipment. If dilution is planned, first test a small trial batch under actual production conditions.
