The presence in galvanic baths of a brightener for tin coatings provides obtaining of shiny tin coatings in the range of current densities 0,1- 3 A/dm2 and temperature +18 – +25 °С.

To obtain a shiny tin plating, it is important to follow the process technology. For example:

1. Stirring of the electrolyte with compressed air is not allowed.
2. Tin anodes (GOST 860-75) are used in the process.
3. A prerequisite for obtaining a shiny coating is the use of covers made of ‘Chlorine’ fabric.
4. In the absence of current the anodes must be removed from the electrolyte.

The advantage and unique characteristic of brightening additive for tinning Tin BK is that it is successfully used not only in tinning electrolytes, but also in similar sulphuric acid electrolytes for producing alloys, e.g. tin-bismuth, tin-cobalt.

Approximate composition of the tin plating bath:

Tin BK – 10-15 g ̸ l

Sulphuric acid – 110-160 g ̸ l

Tin sulphuric acid – 40-60 g/l

OS-20 or ALM-10 preparation – 5-10 g/l

Instructions for use of brightening additive for tin-plating “Tin BK”.

1. Fill the container approximately halfway with demineralised water.
2. Add sulphuric acid in an amount of 20-30 g/litre.
3. Next, introduce sulphuric acid tin into the acidified water with continuous stirring and then add the remaining sulphuric acid.
4. Dissolve the preparation OS-20 or ALM-10 in a small amount of hot water and introduce into the electrolyte.
5. Work the electrolyte with a current of 0.5 A/dm2 to obtain light coatings (desirable operation) introduce during stirring glitter-forming additive and leave the electrolyte for a day.
6. After 24 hours the electrolyte is ready for operation.

Electrolyte adjustment for input components is carried out according to the electrolyte analysis.
