Peracetic acid
In food industry
You can buy peracetic acid in Kharkiv as a disinfectant and bleaching agent in the online shop of chemicals Novohim.
As a disinfectant, peracetic acid solutions are authorised for use in food processing plants. For example, for the treatment of industrial equipment at cheese and dairy plants, canneries and wineries. After all, peracetic acid as a disinfectant has undeniable advantages:
- Has a broad spectrum of action
- Safe for human consumption in unconcentrated form
- May be present on equipment surfaces without washing off in concentrations up to 250ppm
- Effective against yeast, mould fungi, pathogens such as Salmonella
- Safe for the environment, decomposes in minutes if exposed to soil.
In addition to equipment, metal containers, cans for canned food, beer and soft drinks can be treated with this product.
It is noteworthy that peracetic acid is a strong oxidising agent, and as is known, the stronger the oxidising power, the faster pathogenic microorganisms are killed under this influence. For comparison, the oxidising power of peracetic acid is 1.81 eV and that of sodium hypochlorite is 1.36 eV.
Peracetic acid in water treatment
Peracetic acid helps to eliminate slime, biofilms, bacteria in water supply and filtration systems. When purifying water with reverse osmosis systems, it also actively cleans the equipment, thus significantly extending its useful life.
In agriculture
Peracetic acid (PAA) is used to clean equipment and surfaces in livestock and poultry farms.
Domestic
Peracetic acid is a constituent of many household cleaners and detergents. In addition, PAA have strong bleaching properties. Due to this, it is used in chlorine-free bleaching formulations.
Preparation of working solutions should be carried out according to the calculations in Table 1.
Table 1.
| Required concentration of peracetic acid working solution, % | Quantity of peracetic acid concentrate and water per 10dm3(l) of working solution | |
| Quantity of product, g | Quantity of water, ml | |
| 0,01 | 1 | 9999 |
| 0,05 | 5 | 9995 |
| 0,1 | 10 | 9990 |
| 1 | 100 | 9900 |
APPLICATION TECHNOLOGY
Disinfection and washing with the help of peracetic acid working solution can be carried out by the following methods: circulation, pumping, filling containers with working solution, manual and mechanical (spraying) methods, by applying and immersing individual parts and components in peracetic acid solution.
Estimated amount of disinfectant per 1m2 of surface is about 0.3-0.5 dm3. The required exposure time is not less than 15 minutes. After disinfection is completed, the working solution is drained and surfaces are washed with running water for at least 10 minutes until the disinfectant is completely removed.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
When preparing the working solution of peracetic acid, observe the necessary safety measures. Use respirator, protective goggles, gloves, avoid contact of concentrate with mucous membranes and skin. In case of skin lesions or contact with eyes, flush them with running water for 10-15 min. If necessary, seek medical assistance.
Working solutions with a concentration of 0.05-1.5% do not cause irritation of mucous membranes, respiratory tract and skin, and with a concentration of 3% and higher can cause irritation of the upper respiratory tract and eyes.
DESCRIPTION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Working solution of peracetic acid can be used for treatment of industrial premises, technological equipment, heat exchangers, pipelines, bottling lines, packaging and packing, tanks, inventory, containers, utensils, cleaning tools, etc
Recommended for use on products made of metal (stainless steel, chrome-nickel steel), glass, rubber, polymeric materials, tile and porcelain, wood. In addition, it is allowed to treat products with paint, polymer and galvanic coating, epoxy resin and enamel and other materials. Items and surfaces made of mild steel and aluminium should be checked for resistance to the solution. Use on copper surfaces is not recommended.
The solution of peracetic acid is maximally effective at temperatures from +4 to +50˚C. Disinfecting properties of peracetic acid increase at heating and remain up to temperature +90˚C.
The product is environmentally safe. It is easily washed off from surfaces. It does not freeze and retains its properties at low temperatures.
Shelf life of the working solution is not more than 3 days.
The working concentration of peracetic acid 0.01%, sufficient to suppress the viability of the main groups of microorganisms-pests, bacteria, yeasts, fungi and viruses.
