Iodine crystalline

Description and characteristics:

Crystalline iodine is a fairly expensive inorganic compound that belongs to the halogens in the periodic table.
In its natural state, crystalline iodine is found in rocks, more often of volcanic type, and is present in sea water and some algae.
It is perfectly soluble in alcohols, ethers, solutions of sodium and potassium iodides, in solvents, and almost insoluble in water.
The boiling point is 180C.
Easily enters into exchange reactions with other chemical halogens. Volatile.

Packaging, transportation and storage:

Crystalline iodine is packed at the manufacturing plant in drums weighing 50 kg, as well as in 1 kg glass jars. Crystalline iodine is transported by rail in covered wagons or by road in covered vehicles. Iodine is stored in the manufacturer’s packaging in covered warehouses, protected from light and humidity in well-ventilated areas.

Appearance:

Crystalline iodine is dark, almost black crystals with a metallic sheen. It has a specific pungent odour. Crystalline iodine is obtained by extracting it from nitrate deposits, from groundwater in oil and gas production areas, and from iodine salts.
