Sodium hypophosphite

Appearance:

Sodium hypophosphite is a colourless crystal. This reagent is very soluble in water, much worse in alcohols, in particular in ethyl alcohol.

Description and characteristics

Sodium hypophosphite monohydrate or simply sodium hypophosphite is one of the most popular compounds hypophosphite, it is a salt of phosphoric acid. When heated, sodium hypophosphite has a reaction of redistribution of atoms, which produces red phosphorus, phosphites, phosphates dr, and when heated above 200C has the property of decomposition. It is obtained by combining phosphorus with sodium alkali or phosphine gas with sodium salts.

Packaging, transport and storage:

Sodium phosphoric acid is packed at the manufacturing plant in polythene lined bags usually weighing from 25kg. Sodium hypophosphite is transported by rail in covered wagons or by road in covered vehicles. Hypophosphite is stored in the manufacturer’s packaging in covered warehouses, protected from humidity, direct sunlight and well ventilated.
