Pyrogallol, or 1,2,3-trioxybenzene, pyrogallic acid, belongs to the easily oxidised triatomic phenols. This chemical is a shiny, colourless, odourless needle-shaped crystals that darken rapidly in air. Poison pyrogallol melts at 133-134 degrees and boils at 309 degrees. It is soluble in water, ether, and alcohol.

This chemical is synthesised in industry by decarboxylation – the dry distillation of tannic derivatives of gallic acid and gallic acid itself – and then used in many applications.

Storage

Due to the peculiarities of the chemical composition of pyrogallol, in dry form it should be stored in a tightly closed dark glass container, in solution for two days.
