Used to determine the presence of:

• sulphur
• arsenic
• germanium
• tellurium
• selenium in petroleum products and coal.

Most commonly used to analyse coal seams and oil reservoirs for sulphur content.

In order to carry out the analysis, which determines the amount of sulphur present in the coal, a sample of coal is combined with the ESHCA mixture and burnt. The magnesium and sodium sulphates thus obtained are dissolved in high temperature water. Then, a barium chloride solution is also added. The amount of barium sulphate precipitate resulting from the reaction allows to judge the quantitative value of sulphur presence in coal.
