Captax is

– is a crystalline powdery substance of creamy yellow colour with a faint rotting smell and bitter taste, insoluble in water and petrol, soluble in acetone and ethyl alcohol.

Production of captax

Captax is industrially produced by heating aniline with sulphur and carbon disulphide under pressure.

Transportation and storage requirements:

Captax is a slightly toxic, flammable substance. When working with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, personal protective equipment should be worn – respirator, goggles, suit and gloves.

Captax is packed by the manufacturer in paper bags with a polyethylene liner, the standard packing weight of which is 25 kg. Store 2-mercaptophenobenzothiazole in its original packaging in closed warehouses equipped with forced ventilation systems, protected from moisture and light, isolated from other combustibles and oxidising agents.

Captax is recommended to be transported by covered railway or road transport, subject to the rules and regulations for the carriage of goods applicable to these types of transport.
