Benzotriazole can appear as a powder, needle-shaped crystals, granules or plates of white, light yellow or even dark brown colour. Benzotriazole is obtained by the reaction of the aromatic amine phenylenediamine with nitric acid

Description and characteristics:

Benzotriazole is an organic substance containing cycles in which, along with carbon, there are also atoms of other elements. Benzotriazole is insoluble in water, but soluble in ethyl and methyl alcohols, acetone, benzene, toluene. The boiling point of benzotriazole is 350°C, but it is self-igniting at 210°C. The melting point of benzotriazole is from 96°C. Benzotriazole is an amphoteric substance. In reactions, it exhibits both basic and acidic properties. Benzotriazole has excellent anti-corrosion properties, which determines its range of applications.

Packaging, transportation and storage:

Benzotriazole is packed in multilayer paper or polypropylene bags with a liner weighing 25 kg. Benzotriazole is stored in the original packaging in covered dry warehouses away from open sources of light and fire. Benzotriazole is transported by rail in covered wagons or by road in covered vehicles in compliance with the rules for the transport of dangerous goods. It forms explosive mixtures in air at high temperatures or under the influence of open flame sources.

When working with benzotriazole, safety precautions should be observed and personal protective equipment should be used. The maximum permissible dose of benzotriazole vapour in the air of the working area is 5 mg/m
