In analytical chemistry
The dinatrium salt of fluorescein is used as a luminescent acid-base indicator in laboratory research.
In biochemistry and molecular biology
Sodium uranyl isothiocyanate derivatives are used as biological dyes for the detection of antigens and antibodies. Some halogen-substituted fluorescein, e.g. eosins, are also of practical importance.
Uranine for heating networks
Fluorescein is used in heating networks to detect water leaks. The dosage of uranine for this purpose is very small and amounts to 2-5 grams per 1 cubic metre of water.
It is added to closed heating systems and the water is coloured green.
The advantages of using pitchblende:
